Fifty years ago, in a small village in Castile, José, Daniel Olmos's grandfather, killed Maria, his grandmother. Although he knows the history, that of the Spanish Civil War, although he knows a thousand anecdotes about José, the story of this femicide committed in the midst of a dictatorship, Daniel was long unaware of it.
With paper, a stapler, a roll of tape, pencils (lots of them!), and a pencil sharpener, Daniel Olmos and Lisa Peyron break a family and societal taboo. For it is only when stories are told that labels fall away, that the other becomes us, that we can understand and heal. Always leaving room for the healing power of humor, VIVA! explores with keen intelligence a society's capacity to repair and transform itself.
