"There’s nothing left that works" at the station café, as Arkėl, the manager of this family-run establishment, would say. The brother and sister have been arguing since forever, the elder constantly repeats the same stories, the child hides in a corner, and prejudices run rampant. Everything changes the day so-called foreigner·rs cross the threshold of this regulars’ haven. In their wake come music—where there had been generations of silence—and especially the young Mélisande… With his troupe of actors and musicians, Mehdy Khachachi modernizes the play Pelléas et Mélisande by Maeterlinck, a tale of a fatal love woven with unspoken words and unconfessed desires. The setting, for sure—is Wallonian—with the smell of fries and tobacco, crates of Jup’ beers, and hits from the 2000s!
