Japan’s Golden Age of Cinema
During the early 1950s, Japanese society entered a modern era, transitioning from post-war struggles. The inherent tensions between tradition and modernity shaped various aspects of life, including women's roles and evolving Japanese identity. Directors Yasujiro Ozu, Kenji Mizoguchi, and Keisuke Kinoshita explored these themes through domestic dramas, lyrical historical films, and colorful comedic yet serious features. This retrospective showcases their iconic works.
