Workshop: The Clown or "The Parody of Oneself"
As part of the "Clowns in Progress" Festival 2025, this workshop is intended for anyone curious to discover or revisit the basics of clowning inspired by Michel Dallaire's method, to develop a sensitive and fanciful play.
**Educational Objectives:**
- Deepen the basic techniques of expressive clown play.
- Develop expression to develop sensitive play.
- Play by listening to oneself without being self-conscious.
- Learn to embark on emotional journeys.
- Associate emotions, distancing, and playfulness.
- Be in self-mockery: "The clown is the parody of oneself."
- Parody humor (oneself and others).
- Strengthen commitment and generosity to unveil one's ridiculousness.
- Prioritize being over doing, reaction over action.
- Aim to make the clown an open and free character.
- Explore spoken and sung voice related to intimacy and emotion.
**Program:**
- The physical expression of the clown: Work on bodily dissociation to unlock, awaken, and bring awareness to different body parts.
- Study game tension points, expression points, support points, energy transfers.
- Animate silhouettes, movements, attitudes.
- Explore emotional masks.
- Learn to distinguish energy and rhythm. Playing is about rhythm!
- Associate internal rhythmics (states/emotions) with context.
- Play at parodying oneself and partners.
- Lead to making one's clown a free character.
- Learn to follow one's impulses.
- Tackle the duo with family state play.
**The relationship with the audience:**
- Distinguish various public relationships: direct and indirect (feedback from expressions).
- Pre-responses, returns, and public times.
Daphné Clouzeau is a clown, singer, trainer, and director. She began her career at age 16 with theater and physical theater. In 1998, she discovered clown art. She created her clown, Rosie Volt, 26 years ago at Le Samovar (Bagnolet-93), then with Eric Blouet and Michel Dallaire. After the duo Les Cousines pépins (1989), she created La Natür c'est le Bonhür (2017) and YADÉWATTS (2016), two solos directed by Michel Dallaire, still touring. She is also a clown in hospitals with Le Rire Médecin (2008). Additionally, she was a singer and co-founder of the world polyphony group Chet Nuneta for 9 years (album Ailleurs with Le Chant du Monde Harmonia Mundi, produced by MON SLIP - Têtes Raides label); a clown play trainer for over 15 years (École Le Samovar, Théâtre La Carrosserie Mesnier, La Fabrique-Jaspir, Quai des Chaps, École de cinéma Kourtrajmé, EtQuiLibre (B), etc), and a clown play director and director for various companies (Théâtre de Caniveau, La Quincaillerie, Lombric Spaghetti, Les Georges clownés, etc).
