Culture and aesthetic education - conference/debate
"Man is only fully human when he plays."
Tonight we are primarily interested in the role of art and culture in the development of man, from the individual to the person, to the educated citizen in a society. With Friedrich Schiller's idea of an "aesthetic education", the image of man, which comes from instincts, just as it does from judgment, should be taken into account. The most important moment for perfection is found in play. If man can freely live out both sides of himself equally, he can become who he really is. Schiller even builds his socio-political idea on this and shows how the combination of freedom and sensuality, creativity and imagination can ensure a just marriage. Education is the key moment here, which is closely linked to the need for culture. With examples from Gaudi and Beuys, or even the Luxembourgish artist Serge Ecker or Khalid Qasim, who sends art to the world from his Guantanamo cell, just like the Chinese regime-critical artist Badiucao, we find a jet of creators who guarantee their meaning in creative play. This conference has been included in the UNESCO event calendar in 2023 on the theme of "Global Citizenship".
This conference is also listed as IFEN Formation Continue.
