Come and visit the museum of Gorze and its abbey. The Museum of Gorze offers a guided tour of the Museum, the Church, and the exteriors of the Abbatial Palace to discover the history of the Abbey of Gorze. In 749, Chrodegand, Bishop of Metz, established a Benedictine abbey under the patronage of Saint Gorgon. Birthplace of Gregorian Chant, a significant center of Christianity, it contributed for several centuries to the political and religious unification of the Frankish Kingdom, and later, the Carolingian Empire. Its numerous villages and vast landholdings were known as the 'Land of Gorze.' The Abbey was burned in 1552 and destroyed in 1580.
