Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson, born in 1850 in Edinburgh, wrote under the pseudonym Captain George North the ultimate pirate novel classic "Treasure Island" in 1882/1883 and created, with the character Long John Silver, the glittering and charming villain of all pirates. With "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," Robert Louis Stevenson became world-famous, admired by Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, James Matthew Barrie, respected by Henry James, appreciated by William Archer, revered by Jorge Luis Borges, loved by Marcel Proust, acclaimed by Italo Calvino, and regarded by Vladimir Nabokov as one of Europe's master storytellers – protected by his wife, Fanny Stevenson, born Frances Matilda Van de Grift, divorced Osbourne. Tuberculosis and a brain hemorrhage brought an early end to his life in 1894 on Upolu Island.
