The comedy by Ernst Lubitsch from 1919 about modern familial ties sparkles with wit. In this grotesque comedy from the early silent film era, the genius Ernst Lubitsch narrates the story of a millionaire who became wealthy through the oyster trade, binding his daughter to a penniless German aristocrat. Lubitsch already exhibited his 'Lubitsch touch' here, often copied but unmatched: a spirited mix of humor and frivolity. Wonderfully grotesque and full of subtle punchlines.
