Antigone, Ismene and We
This unique project brings the fate of Antigone and Ismene into the contemporary setting of Ettelbruck. Two perspectives guide the narrative: The first part focuses on Antigone, based on an adapted version of Sophocles' tragedies, reinterpreted by Jon Fosse, the Norwegian Nobel Prize-winning author. Within an intergenerational project, a collective performance has been developed and is presented this evening. It reflects the reflections of participants—young and older individuals from Ettelbruck and surroundings—on their family situations and questions of individual freedom, societal norms, familial obligations, and power structures. The actors' voices interweave with the ancient tragedy surrounding Antigone and Ismene. Antigone becomes an icon of resistance against the powers of the past. In the second part, the tale follows Ismene’s perspective through a solo performance where Ismene steps out from the shadow of her famous family and breaks her silence.
