On Saint Alphonse's day, Alphonse Marjavel is the happiest man. He hosts Jobelin, his ex-best friend and lover of his ex-wife, along with his niece Berthe. His new best friend, Ernest, stays with him for the summer and serves as a partner for card games. Ernest, meanwhile, partners Hermance, Alphonse's wife. The arrival of Sarthois domestic workers, Omer and Mariette, through their ignorance, will destabilize all these arrangements among friends...
