Curator Tour
Experience the exhibition "Tiffany Sia: Phantasmatic Screens" through the perspective of the curator Marie-Noëlle Farcy.
Biography:
Tiffany Sia (1988, Hong Kong), winner of the Baloise Art Prize 2024, explores the material properties of film and their impact on narratives and the perception of space. In her film "The Sojourn" (2023), recently added to the Mudam Collection, she travels to Taiwan, following in the footsteps of martial arts film director King Hu (1931–97). Sia examines in her book "On and Off-Screen Imaginaries" (2024) how Hu reconstructed his birthplace, Beijing, left during his childhood, in his films, reflecting on a bygone world residing in memory. In "The Sojourn", Sia collects impressions from Shih Chun (1935), lead actor in Hu's "Dragon Inn" (1967), discussing the impact of mountain fog on imagery. Sia's work blends visual meditation with minor discrepancies, projecting images onto a distorting medium, evoking the slippery experience of exilic memory.
