Inhabited Times II © Bertrand Ney Ten years ago, Bertrand Ney exhibited in our gallery, surprising the public with a presentation exclusively devoted to painting. Having gained international recognition through sculpture, he had, for several decades, abandoned the pictorial medium. The exhibition "Inhabited Times" marked the return of matter and color. In this second opus, Bertrand Ney continues his exploration of time, the raw material of all his work. Stretching, suspension, bursting: his paintings give form to a succession of images and reminiscences that overlap, beyond any linearity. They open up a universal space where memory and imagination intertwine, offering a symbolism that is always in motion. The Luxembourg artist reveals himself once again as a painter. After returning to drawing and pictorial art, he now deepens this path by offering metaphorical and dreamlike canvases. From The Abduction of Europa to Melancholia, his characters and creatures appear in a vibrant material, sometimes dazzling and jubilant, sometimes more serious and restrained. In Bertrand Ney's work, the gentleness of the atmosphere often masks a subtle critique: sculptural figures and enigmatic beings embody our contradictions, our fragilities, and our desires. Each work is a layer, a fragment of humanity suspended on the canvas, inviting the viewer to cross the threshold into a world where allegory and dreamlikeness converse with our own time.
