This Doesn't Go on Any Cowhide
Using the example of the Majestas Domini from the Codex Aureus Epternacensis. In earlier times, monks sat at their desks to transcribe or paint the Bible in words and images to be closer to heaven. Under the expert guidance of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Fleckenstein, a slightly simplified form of manuscript illumination, comparable to icon painting techniques, from the Codex Aureus Epternacensis – the Majestas Domini, a depiction of Christ the Judge at his return at the end of all days – is painted on genuine parchment using gold leaf and color pigments.
