Miss Julie - Theatre
Midsummer's night on a Swedish rural estate sees celebrations in the kitchen. Julie, the wealthy daughter of the estate's owner, sets her sights on her servant Jean. Julie and Jean flirt in the presence of the sleeping cook Kristin—Jean's supposed future wife—and end up in his chamber. Julie yearns for escape while Jean dreams of social ascent. As dawn approaches, roles blur, and following their passionate night, shared future plans crumble. The heated conflict between genders, social classes, and aspirations moves inexorably toward an abyss. August Strindberg's 1888 naturalistic tragedy "Miss Julie" remains his most performed and radical piece. TNL, Schauspiel Wuppertal, and director Stefan Maurer continue their fruitful collaboration post "Stella". Featuring Nora Koenig and Thomas Braus in lead roles, their remarkable performance showcases intense and captivating encounters.
