Conference - These behaviors we thought were unique to humans
The image we have of animals rarely corresponds to reality. This distorted view can lead us to neglect them, despise them, or even justify their unreasonable exploitation. Faced with the collapse of biodiversity and the climate crisis, there is an urgent need to change our view of living beings.
Ethology, the study of animal behavior, is a recent discipline in science. Its discoveries are surprising because they break down, one after another, the barriers we had erected between ourselves and other animal species.
In particular, we are learning that laughter, teaching, collaborative activities, parental care, war, empathy, adultery, divorce, politics, etc. are not specific to human behavior. During his lecture, François Verheggen will illustrate this reality by encouraging participants to ask themselves: are there any behaviors that are unique to human beings?
