Do menstrual products enable self-determined management of menstruation or do they force shameful concealment? Their history spans about 150 years and is rich in inventions. Materials such as moss, silk, and silicone have been used and sometimes discarded. Women contributed to technical innovations and adopted the new products, but their success depended on contemporary ideas about the female body. Jana Wittenzellner, curator of the exhibition "Läuft", offers an overview of their development in the context of shame and empowerment.
