Video conference - To pet or to kill. Why is our relationship with animals so complicated?
The relationship between humans and animals is complicated. While the value of cattle, pigs, and others is often measured by weight, pets are treasured family members beyond compare. Why do we pet some animals and slaughter others? And why have we begun to question this unequal treatment more and more in recent years? Dr Marcel Sebastian, an expert in the sociology of human-animal relationships, explains the historical and cultural connections shaping our perceptions, our surprising dependencies, and how we might move toward a better coexistence.
