On the Rights of Nature - conference
The Bible and rabbinic literature abound with references to ecological awareness, reflecting a religious worldview. These texts inspire the contemporary Jewish environmental movement in developing an ecological theology that addresses today's economic-ethical challenges, especially the exploitation of natural resources. This requires a pluralistic perspective on creation and its creatures, particularly humans as "co-creators with God." From this arises the idea that nature itself can be considered a bearer of rights.
