The Centre for Documentation on Human Migrations, the "History and Migrations" Chair and the City of Dudelange are organising a commemorative day on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Louis Rech (1926-2012).
Louis Rech, born in Italy, was the first mayor (1985-1993) of immigrant origin to govern a Luxembourgish municipality. Through this tribute, retracing the path of the mayor of Dudelange, the organisers wish to recall that this political emancipation required intense personal commitments and important societal struggles.
Research on the history of migration in Dudelange and the Minett region will be presented, with comparisons to Esch-sur-Alzette.
