A choreography on Antin
What does it mean to interpret an artwork through the body, the senses, the spirit? For this performance, choreographer Léa Tirabasso and dancer Catarina Barbosa draw on Eleanor Antin’s work through narration and movement, offering a renewed perspective. Antin developed a series of alter egos and fictional characters to articulate her positions on social and political issues. This activation proposes a choreographic reading of her work through contemporary dance. The performer embodies several of these figures and reinterprets them live. Central to this activation is the figure of the ballerina—a recurring motif in Antin’s life and work. This character is revisited through movement, reflecting her thoughts on the constraints of grace and femininity and the impossibility of the ideal she examined. In this live interpretation, the ballerina gradually takes form, inviting the audience to rediscover this emblematic figure in a fresh light.
