The UNESCO Memory of the World Programme, founded in 1992, honours documents of universal significance. By 2025, the list will include 569 entries from institutions in over 100 countries, such as the Heidi Archive, the patent for Carl Benz's "Motorwagen Nr. 1" and the Royal Archives of Madagascar.
The Scientific Library of the City of Trier preserves two medieval manuscripts included in the World Documentary Heritage register: the "Codex Egberti" and the "Ada-Evangeliar". This lecture provides an overview of the programme, focuses on these Trier manuscripts, and ends with a brief outlook.
Priv.-Doz. Dr. Francesco Roberg, Director of Archives at the Scientific Library of Trier, is an expert in historical sciences and medieval history.
