Luxembourgish nation and arts around the year 1900
Around 1900, despite the absence of a museum and a school of fine arts, there was a growing awareness of the importance of "national" artistic creation in Luxembourg, a theme reflected in the exhibition "Vu Lilien a Linnen" (From Lilien to Linnen). This artistic scene developed through constant dialogue with the international community. A new legal framework and new institutions played a significant role, complementing that of private patrons. The lecture presents the specific context of this period when, thanks to the rise of the steel industry, the state, for the first time, had the means to pursue a national policy, including artistic and educational ones.
