The City Theatres continue their collaboration with the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch by presenting a classic from Pina Bausch's repertoire, Palermo Palermo, in its original staging and choreography. For this powerful piece, created in 1989, the choreographer drew her inspiration from the life of the Sicilian city, where tradition, religion, and ceremonies intertwine. The Tanztheater Wuppertal dancers, who rehearsed under the direction of Michael Strecker and Robert Sturm, perform absurdist numbers, filled with a tender and melancholic humor. Through gestures, movements, and sounds, they open up spaces for poetic reminiscence. Palermo Palermo is a performance of uncommon visual power, which, with its succession of vignettes, marks a turning point in Pina Bausch's work.
