The Grand Ducal Palace serves as the official residence of the Grand Ducal family and is located in the centre of the old town.

The site of the current palace once housed the capital's first town hall, whose origins date back to 1418. After being destroyed by a gunpowder explosion in 1554, the town hall was rebuilt twenty years later. In 1741, the stone balcony railing was replaced with a wrought-iron one, which still exists today. In the mid-18th century, the building was extended on the right side with a Baroque-style structure serving as the "Public Weigh House." In 1860, the Chamber of Deputies was built to the right of the Palace. Since 1890, the main building has served as the Grand Ducal Palace. From 1992 to 1995, the Palace underwent extensive restoration work.

In 2026, witness the solemn changing of the guard on Monday, June 22nd and Saturdays, July 18th and September 5th at 4pm.
