A long corridor, some indistinct sounds in the distance, different languages, different songs ... That's it, we're at the ‘festival des migrations’! We make a right and BIM, BAM, WAOUUUUH an explosion of colors, sounds, food smells. This diversity is really impressive, this diversity! Ok, let’s start this crazy adventure! 😁
First stop: the Bosnian Association of Luxembourg stand. We meet women in traditional dress, and at this moment we are thinking "can we take a picture or not?". We try to take one discreetly 📸... see what we mean by discreetly? The same kind of discretion when your friend tells you"don't turn around, my ex is sitting just behind you!", that level of discretion! But let’s go back to our story: one of the women on the stand, clearly catches us taking the picture, but, with a sweet and spontaneous smile, and, with a simple nod, makes us understand “Go ahead! Don't be ashamed, we are proud to show where we come from”. 🥰
We continue to look around the stands of migrants associations from Egypt, Brazil, Thailand, Serbia, Montenegro…. And even from Alsace (France region)! But what association will we support? The choice is extremely difficult! In the end, we go to the Afghan and Cuban stand to eat a bit - oh yes you should know that the men and women who ran the stands sold handmade objects (wax, jewelry…), or had cooked, all night long, a bunch of house specialties for the occasion 😋. We ate mantu with samosas, then an “empanada” with minced meat and small vegetables and coconut balls for dessert 🥥
And just when we start thinking that we've seen every little detail... We discover a stand that catches our attention: "Aba ..." but of course! “Abadá Capoeira”… the stand of Leticia Do Nascimiento! Oh what ashamed! She is not on the stand. Our attention is diverted by the noise of percussion in the distance. On stage, Brazilian Samba artists and, some Capoeira dancers warming up before going on the stage and, there she is, Leticia! 🙌 We were lucky to meet her, to see this warrior in action, alone or with her association, they really captivated the public!
We told you about our experience, but there was so much more you could also see at the migration festival: art exhibitions, writing workshops, associations to help all the communities that make up the magnificent mix-and-match culture of Luxembourg.
