On September 20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is exceptionally opening its doors to the general public for a unique day! On the programme: laboratories to discover, scientific experiments, interactive workshops and meetings with researchers… An event open to everyone, whether curious or passionate about science π¨π»π¬
A QUICK INTRODUCTION BEFORE YOU WALK IN
We often picture researchers in their white lab coats, with their glasses and test tubes… but do you know what really goes on in a research center? What if, for once, we invited you to step inside a lab to see what’s really happening there?
That’s exactly what the LIST is offering during its open day! For one day, you’ll be able to explore the facilities and, most importantly… get a behind-the-scenes look at research π¬
If the name LIST doesn’t ring a bell yet, let us introduce you!
LIST is a Luxembourg-based research and development center focused on the environment, materials, digital technology, artificial intelligence, space, and industrial technologies. Its goal? To advance research to develop concrete solutions and help build a more sustainable, resilient, and digital society!
Behind these major missions are, above all, researchers, engineers, and scientists… and it’s exactly these amazing people you’ll get to meet during this event: the teams, their research, their labs, and the projects they’re working on every day βοΈπ§«
But don’t worry: you don’t need to have gotten a perfect score in physics to participate π€ͺ
A DAY TO TOUCH, TRY AND EXPLORE
If your offspring is already turning the kitchen into an improvised laboratory with baking soda, vinegar and anything else they can get their hands on or if you’ve always had a soft spot for technology, then this event may well be right up your alley π
Get ready for a fun-filled day:
- laboratory visits
- scientific demonstrations
- interactive workshops
- activities for the whole family
- meetings with researchers
- and food and refreshments available on site
And yes, there’s no question of sitting around with our arms folded : we’re off to discover the stands, observe, chat and let ourselves be surprised! π¬β¨
Around ten scientific demonstrations will also be offered covering various LIST research fields. Among the main themes on the menu on 20 September: Materials, Environment, IT & AI and Space π§±πΎπ¨π»π»πͺπ
Enough to AWAKEN CURIOSITY FOR SURE and perhaps inspire a few future scientists π§π»
For children and young people, it’s a chance to discover that science isn’t limited to chemistry classes, formulas to learn by heart or surprise tests (we hope we haven’t brought back any old traumas). It can also be fun, surprising, hands-on and full of questions that are still waiting for answers! And for adults? Same story. After all, we never really stop being interested in the world around us.
To round off the day, food and a few refreshments will also be available for you on site. In short, there’s no need to pack a sandwich to eat between two experiments π₯ͺ
