Kammerata - Czech chamber music
Antonín Dvořák, Josef Suk and Bohuslav Martinů not only have in common that they came from Bohemia and played the violin or viola well. They also maintain a teacher-student relationship between them.
Suk studied composition with Dvořák and Martinů received violin lessons from Suk. Kammerata presents a particularly significant chamber music work by each of these three composers.
Dvořák's piano quintet, dating from the late 1880s, once again plays with elements of Eastern European popular music. Suk's piano quartet bears opus number 1 and thus constitutes a declaration to the world of music on what we can now expect from this composer.
Martinů's Madrigal Sonata from 1942 finally returns to a vocal genre from older musical history, in which human feelings and passions were sung, and here creates a compact and dense piece of chamber music, which impresses with its lightness and its elegance.
