Images at work - expo
Since the day the Lumière brothers' cinema recorded their employees leaving the factory in 1895, the camera lens has established itself as an essential witness to the developments, histories and policies of work. As Harun Farocki remarked about the famous images of “Exit from the Factory”, they make us see that “the determination of the movement of workers represents something, that the visible movement of individuals replaces the absent and invisible movement of goods , capital and ideas in the industry. If they intend to capture the reality of workers and their daily lives, the images of work are themselves inseparable from the modes of production intrinsic to the cinematographic medium.
With this in mind, the collective exhibition Images at Work imagined by curator Laura Lux brings together experimental documentaries and artists' films that capture the mechanics, manual routines and poetic experiences of work on old and new production sites, while exploring the history of its representation through moving images.
