Lecture - Thomas Sparr: "Ich will fortleben, auch nach meinem tod"
The previously untold story of Anne Frank's world-famous diary fills a gap in the narrative about Anne Frank.
Anne Frank dreamed of one day becoming a famous writer. Her father Otto Frank, the only member of the family to survive the war, wanted to make this wish come true for his daughter and made the distribution of Anne's diary his reason for living. In 1947 "Het Achterhuis" appeared in the Netherlands and in 1950 the first German edition was published. Today, the journal is among the most widely read books in the world; the effect it has produced since the post-war period is incomparable and uninterrupted. But the story of its success is marked by obstacles and setbacks – and remains largely unknown. Thomas Sparr deciphers how the success of the book was born, how it was received around the world and why it still won't let go of us today.
