Frank Peter Zimmermann is among the greatest violinists of our time and, for a violinist, The Brahms Concerto is the absolute grail, greater in its dimensions and depth of feeling than anything previously written. The violin alternates between stunning acrobatics and moments of great tenderness and poetry. The violin is again in the spotlight in the orchestral suite Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, where its sensual volutes convey the irresistible seduction of the heroine of the Arabian Nights. In four paintings, a dream Orient is painted by an orchestra of a thousand (and one) colors.
