From Mozart to Reger
Max Reger, Serenade In G major op. 141aWolfgang Amadeus Mozart, String Quintet No. 2 In C minor KV 406/516bMax Reger, Clarinet Quintet In A major op. 146This concert by Kammerata Luxembourg brings forward and interweaves three great chamber music works by Mozart and Reger, thus creating a musical dialogue between these two renowned composers. Although we generally associate Max Reger (1873-1916) with Johann Sebastian Bach, particularly because of his major influence In the field of the organ, there are also many points of convergence between the music of Reger and that of WA Mozart . The Serenade op. 141a In G major by Reger, composed in 1915, and Mozart's String Quintet In C minor KV 406, dating from 1787, are closely related. Indeed, the first version of Mozart's work, created five years earlier, was also a serenade, but for wind instruments. the Clarinet Quintet op. 146 by Reger, completed shortly before his premature death in 1915, evokes Mozart's Quintet in A major dating from 1789, both in its formation and in its structure. In this late work, Reger avoids the pathetic tones of his earlier compositions, adopting a calmer, more introverted approach and a subtle, transparent sound.
