"Yolo" is the English acronym for You Only Live Once. It suggests that we might need to rethink the order of our priorities—a sort of Carpe Diem with a catchier mandate. While some are still waiting for Godot, Aymeric Lompret is looking for his dog. Everyone has their priorities, as we've just mentioned. This also confirms that we're at the theater where Yolo happens to be the title of Aymeric's new show.
The artist breaks away from the typical stand-up codes to put his great acting talent at the service of the character he plays. This character is a homeless person who chooses to keep laughing even in adversity (You Only Live Once). One of those illustrious gentle hobos, funny without ever being cynical, who finds the piece of sidewalk where tonight's camp will be set up. What's the distance between this character and the actor bringing him to life? It's fluctuating, deliberately vague, because in fact, it doesn't matter.
The real aim is the story these two are telling us. Lompret's ever more polished and precise proposition, the social and humanist resonance behind the landing joke, absurd flights, false naivety, genuine nonchalance… What really matters is to stay sincere, never to be pretentious or play the know-it-all. On stage, the sole goal is to find the dog. The more the day advances, the more dusk falls, and the more urgent it becomes... For at nightfall, slipping solo into the tent for sleep just reminds one that you're really sleeping outside. And everything that was funny this afternoon becomes much less so Once cloaked in darkness.
