In Extremo is a German medieval metal band that fuses heavy metal sounds with traditional medieval music. Formed in 1995 in Berlin, the band began as two separate projects: a medieval ensemble and a rock band. They eventually merged in 1997 after a live rock concert marked the official start of their unique sound. The band is characterized by its innovative blend of electric guitars, bass, drums, and traditional instruments such as bagpipes, shawms, hurdy-gurdy, and lutes, becoming their signature style.
