Sewing and repairing garments was purely a manual task until the invention of the sewing machine in the mid-19th century. The production of soldiers' uniforms was also done by hand, making the process lengthy and costly. Therefore, garments were repaired rather than discarded, contrary to contemporary practices. Join this interactive workshop to discover new mending techniques and learn more about the history of sewing. Open to participants aged 16 and above, no prior sewing knowledge is required for this activity.
