From 1843 to 1867, part of the former Echternach Abbey served as barracks for a battalion of hunters of the Federal Contingent. Illustrated by many graphical documents, this conference-screening will discuss the settlement, the lives of officers and soldiers, the 1848 riot, maneuvers, and the interactions between military personnel and civilians. Writers such as M. Z. G. Werner, Nicolas Gonner, C. M. Spoo, Dicks, and Victor Hugo discussed this charming operetta army... which remained peaceful.
