La Cenerentola, the last opera buffa composed by Gioacchino Rossini, premiered in 1817 at the Teatro Valle in Rome, is an adaptation of Charles Perrault's tale Cinderella, but from which the librettist, Jacopo Ferretti, removed all the supernatural elements. A two-act dramma giocoso, La Cenerentola draws its strength from a skillful blend of lyrical forms, mixing the serious with the light, the pathos with the comic. For this new production, the Opéra national de Lorraine (Rigoletto, 21-22) collaborates with Belgian director Fabrice Murgia (Alma, 23-24), Giulio Cilona as musical director, and renowned Scottish mezzo-soprano Beth Taylor, whose exceptional coloratura is praised, in the demanding role of Angelina.
