Stand up
Shakespeare, again and again! The English playwright is a staple of the canon of world literature, and Daddy Issues tackles that status head-on. Its diagnosis: too white, too male, too royalist, and (now) verbosely elitist. Blending music with drama, searching for ways to reconcile with Shakespeare, the theater's unwavering patriarch, the cast and crew stand up to this stage monster, hoping to one day come to terms with him. Gathered in a closed movie theater, they bicker, act, and sing out their frustrations, unleashing an uninhibited, mercurial universe drawn from Shakespeare's work on the audience. Things are about to get serious, loud, judgmental, and also very loud.
