24 at the Piano: Chopin & Shostakovich
Two composers separated by a century but united by the same idea: to write 24 preludes. These short pieces, focused on a mood or motif, explore 24 different tonalities. Those by Frédéric Chopin are brief and poetic, like fleeting thoughts. Those by Dmitri Shostakovich are demanding and complex, each paired with a fugue where musical ideas shift from one voice to another, resembling an agitated conversation. All pieces represent a kaleidoscope of emotions, from intimate to fervent. Renowned for her clarity and powerful playing, pianist Yulianna Avdeeva will perform a selection of these works. A concert that promises to be a true test of endurance for the artist.
