Like a ray of light meeting a glass prism, the Baroque period unfolds here as a spectrum of countless colors. Over approximately 150 years, from the end of the Renaissance to the Age of Enlightenment, the world of music evolved like never before. From Dietrich Buxtehude to Georg Friedrich Handel, including Johann Sebastian Bach, each composer featured in this program, performed by the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro and Anna Prohaska, reveals a different aspect of the Baroque style. Another common thread among the works presented is prayer. Beyond the Baroque spectrum, this program also highlights the wide range of emotions the human soul can experience, from consolation to passion.
