The tireless Alsatians of Last Train unveiled a striking album at the start of 2025, mixing visceral anger and raw emotion. Renowned for their exceptionally powerful stage performances, they will be stopping off in Luxembourg after an intense European summer tour, marked by notable appearances at the Sziget, Dour, and Lollapalooza festivals.
Free. Determined. In nearly 15 years of a dense and ascending career, the four boys of Last Train have never let go of the tenacious fervor that crackles within them. A quick glance in the rearview mirror is enough to understand: two albums, an orchestral project, a short film, a documentary, a mini-series, and at the heart of it all... the stage. More than 500 concerts, from the biggest festivals in Europe to the legendary Olympia in Paris in March 2022. Consecration. And if the list is dizzying, it's perhaps because Last Train has never hesitated to reach for the sky. Aim high, aim far, and always aim right, driven by this inflexible line of conduct: creative and strategic independence against all odds.
So after the ambitious Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, a symphonic and unusual rewriting of its own songs, Last Train has chosen to make a direct shift. Like an urgent response, a visceral reaction. A new step forward, imbued with mature experience and unadulterated passion.
Lozère, December 2023. Between the cold, opaque walls of the Château de Planchamp, Last Train brings to life the new chapter of its story. 9 tracks, which shape a dark and frontal third album. Even in its title, "III" advocates a compact, clear writing style, stripped of the superfluous. But as always with Last Train, essential does not rhyme with ease. Nothing in the raw essence of "III" is gratuitous: the ferocity of the sounds is sometimes contained, sometimes unleashed to better increase the tension, the textures are multiple and the emotion skillfully distilled. A barely whispered voice collides with heavy and incisive sounds, and in the loop of repeated chords emerges a mechanism as tense as it is hypnotic. Emancipated from the grandiloquent tragedy of its predecessors, "III" thus dares to venture into the hostile lands of anger and frustration. As proof, cathartic texts, raw testimonies of a reality that Last Train punctuates with its eternal sincerity.
Charged with this primitive intensity, "III" comes to affix the true and definitive signature of what Last Train is: a band like we have perhaps never known, voluntarily free from any possible comparison. And it is armed with this album sculpted for the live, its original playground, that Last Train prepares to hit the road again on the occasion of an international tour starting in spring 2025. A new meeting between an audience bubbling with impatience and those who seem to be, more than ever, determined to make their singularity roar.
