Ukraine 2021 | Taras Tomenko | vostEN | 120' | digital | Cast: Dmytro Oliynyk, Vyacheslav Dovzhenko, Stanislav Suknenko.

Set in 1930s Kharkiv, this film follows Vladimir Akimov, an ambitious young poet, as he moves into Slovo House, a cooperative building created by Stalin's regime to house leading Ukrainian artists, fostering a new Soviet cultural identity. The film examines artistic repression and the tragic fate of intellectuals during the Holodomor through Akimov's moral struggles and the collective fate of his fellow writers. It powerfully illustrates the stifling of artistic freedom and the devastating impact of totalitarianism on Ukrainian intellectual life.
