April 1910. In the arid Northeast of Brazil, a blood-stained shirt sways in the wind. Tonho, the youngest son of the Breves, is forced by his father to avenge his elder brother's death, a victim of an ancestral feud between families over property issues.
“The movie, sparing in dialogue, occasionally lingers in long static shots on weathered, sweaty faces, reflecting the barrenness of hearts and lands, which might at times seem overly aesthetic. However, with its compelling, unfussy narrative, the subtle yet convincing performances by unknown actors, and the director's undeniable craftsmanship present in every shot, it’s easy to be charmed...”
