Set in Taiwan and Hong Kong in 1970-1971, directed by King Hu and presented in the French subtitles, this 180-minute film is available in digital format. Cast: Feng Hsu, Chun Shih, Ying Bai. Technical Grand Prize, Cannes Film Festival 1975. Ku Shen Chai, a thirty-something artist still living with his mother, sees his life turned upside down by the arrival of Yang Hui-ching, a mysterious runaway princess. She introduces him to her circle of protectors, including an unnamed monk whose spiritual teachings transform Ku into a valiant fighter.

The model for every subsequent philosophical wuxia film, King Hu's martial arts epic is visually stunning and teeming with mystical allusions, sexual subtext, Buddhist symbolism, and natural beauty.
