One of the greatest polyphonists of the Renaissance, Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611), elevated the art of polyphony in divided choirs, contributing to the deliberate splendor of the Counter-Reformation. An emblematic masterpiece, his Missa Salve Regina for eight voices in double choir heralds the emerging Golden Age splendor. Since 2005, the members of La Grande Chapelle, a Madrid-based ensemble led by Albert Recasens, have enhanced this highly spiritual music.
