An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London of 1867, once defended the Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. Engineer Vauban, responsible for the siege works in 1684, was tasked with developing a project for strengthening this powerful fortress. Today, the museum offers guided tours of these fortifications.
