Drawing their musical influences from British Oi, American hardcore punk, and traditional Irish music, Boston's Dropkick Murphys have built a reputation as one of America's most celebrated Celtic punk bands. The band formed in the late '90s as a basic, fiery punk band, but over the years, they began incorporating traditional Irish instruments and melodies into their boisterous sound. With songs about working-class issues, solidarity, and the joys to be found at the bottom of a bottle, The Murphys won over both punk and mainstream fans, especially after their song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" was featured in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning 2006 film "The Departed." Over the years, their fame grew with albums like 2011's "Going Out in Style" and 2017's "11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory." Active in charitable and political causes, they founded the Claddagh Fund to support local organizations. Their popularity remains intact thanks to acoustic albums like 2022's "This Machine Still Kills Fascists" and 2023's "Okemah Rising."
