Compay Segundo, born Francisco Repilado in 1907, is an icon of Cuban music. He began composing at age 15 and invented the Armónico at 17. His career of over 80 years includes more than 400 songs, including Chan Chan. At 90, he gained worldwide fame through the film Buena Vista Social Club (1999), embodying Cuban elegance. Having passed away in 2003, his legacy continues with El Grupo Compay Segundo, led by his son Salvador.
