This exhibition brings together two artists whose works question our perception of space and our relationship to the structures that surround us. One through geometric paradoxes, the other through houses without windows: both invite us to cross the boundaries of reality.
Matías Gárate, a geometric artist based in Fennange (Bettembourg) and holding a doctorate in astrophysics, combines his passion for mathematics and art to create impossible figures. His prints, drawings, and 3D sculptures explore a reality where the floor can become a ceiling, where gravity reverses at every corner, and where endless stairs defy our logic. Each piece invites us to imagine a world where the laws of space reinvent themselves.
Roberta Mestieri, a Brazilian visual artist based in Berlin and with a background in theater, explores in her pictorial work the symbolic relationships between structures, houses, and shelters. Her paintings depict habitats without windows or identifiable details, permeated by a tension between welcome and isolation. Through unexpected perspectives and intertwining elements, she constructs visions where strangeness and hospitality coexist.
Between optical illusions and intimate tensions, "Between Illusion and Shelter" offers a dialogue between two artistic approaches that push the boundaries of the familiar to open new spaces of perception and reflection.
