For the past twenty years, the "just transition" and "green jobs" have occupied a central place in public debate, but the role and expertise of the trade union movement are often overlooked. However, trade unions have long been committed to environmental issues, particularly through struggles against industrial pollution and for occupational health. Using concrete examples from different countries, this presentation will highlight the capacities for trade union action, internal debates on these commitments, as well as possible alliances with other actors (scientists, associations, environmentalists). This historical perspective helps us rethink trade union action today that links employment, working conditions, and ecological transition.
