Precarity, Power, and Worker Resistance: Examples from Amazon and Beyond

In this presentation, Maite Tapia will present her research on the working conditions of Amazon warehouse workers, with a primary focus on the United States, while also incorporating the experiences of workers in several European countries. Through this perspective, she will address the broader challenges of low-paid employment and worker precarity in the contemporary labor market—highlighting the concentration of employer power and the increasing use of surveillance and productivity technologies. The final part of the presentation will focus on developments in the United States following the 2024 presidential election and the return of the Trump administration, with a particular focus on the consequences for workers, labor rights, and unions in the current political climate.
